Enjoying Wilderness In

Your Own Backyard

Homesteading Adventures to Support Healthy & Sustainable Lifestyles

Our love for the outdoors extends into our lifestyle and dreams for our future homestead. We are beginning homesteaders learning how to live more off the land. For now that means growing our own produce in our backyard garden and making some of our own cleaning and body products.

Over the last few years we’ve experimented with growing a wide variety of vegetables and various ways to preserve them. We mostly freeze, pickle and dehydrate our garden bounty.

Eating healthy and creating a sustainable lifestyle goes hand in hand with our adventures. We make a majority of our backpacking meals at home using store-bought ingredients and dehydrated vegetables from our garden. It is an affordable, healthy method that keeps us connected to nature!

Our Sugar Scrubs can be used all over the outer body to smooth and hydrate skin, and add pleasure into every day life.

All scrubs start with a base made of sugar and light olive oil. Various essential oils or spices are added to this base for scent, additional exfoliation and to increase product enjoyment.

Sooth dry skin with a natural sugar scrub!

  • Our small batch sugar scrubs come in three enticing scent combinations: Lemon Drop, Snickerdoodle and Minty Cocoa.

  • Organic essential oils such as Peppermint, Lemongrass and Tea Tree give our scrubs their delightful smell. Please note: Product is not designed to treat any medical condition.

  • Sugar scrubs are sold either in an 8 ounce wide mouth glass mason jar (local pick up only) or a 6 ounce aluminum travel tin. Both containers are reusable for many household and travel purposes.

Our favorite recipes

Pickling is one of the best ways to preserve produce and baking is often a fun way to integrate vegetables into your favorite treats.

There are only so many fresh cucumbers or summer squash we can eat before they go bad so we love to make several batches of Sweet & Spicy Pickles or Lemon Poppy Seed Summer Squash Bread each summer.

We also have a small list of our own trail tested freezer bag cooking recipes for the adventurous chef!

Growing at Home

Gardening can happen just about anywhere! Don’t have a lot of space? No problem.

For years we lived on 1/4 acre with a wonderful backyard garden. In the fall of 2023 we moved onto our current 5 acre homestead. With thoughtful planning, we’ve been able to to grow some great produce to decrease what we need from the store. We use mostly raised beds, with some containers and small rows straight into the soil.

Gardening allows us more control over the quality of the produce we eat. We do not use pesticides in our garden. Instead we use natural methods of pest control and feed our garden with our own compost.

After almost a decade of gardening in several different states, we know it is a learning process! Every year we try new methods or new crops, and that is part of the fun.

Gardening is so good for us body, mind and soul!
